Preparing for an appointment
-Tell your doctor as acurately as you can about your problem -If you have several different symptoms, worries or
issues you want to discuss, then write them down on a list. Start with the one bothering you most. -Most
doctors allocate about ten minutes for each appointment. If you think you will require longer than this, ask the receptionist
if it is possible to have a double appointment. -It is often helpful for the receptionist to know why you want
an appointment-the surgery has many special clinics. -Everything you say inside the surgery is confidential-this
applies to receptionists as well as doctors. -If you find it difficult to make a convenient appointment or
you are faced with a long wait- your doctor may be able to help you with a telephone call. -Remember NHS Direct
is available 24 Hours a day, for advice.
